December Hot Cocoa Critique with a Mystery Editor!

Are you an SCBWI Ohio North member that wants verbal feedback on your work-in-progress from a Mystery Editor?

Well, grab a mug of hot cocoa and join us for another critique treat!

The December Hot Cocoa Critique with Mystery Editor Feedback will take place on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm with an added bonus of a 30-minute Q&A from 9:00 – 9:30 pm.

Want to participate? Here’s how:

Although this event is free to SCBWI members, registration is required. Click here to access the registration page. Registration will start at 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 18, 2021.

The Mystery Editor will provide feedback to 10 participants. Because the number of slots available for feedback are limited, slots are open only to SCBWI Ohio North members. (**In an effort to give all Ohio North members the opportunity to participate in a Mystery Critique, please do not sign up to share your manuscript if you shared your work during the October Trick-or-Treat Mystery Agent critique; if that occurs, someone from the waitlist will be given a slot to share their work. Thank you!**)

There will be an option to register for the waitlist for SCBWI Ohio North members to share work, in case anyone drops out or doesn’t show up.

All SCBWI members can sign up to listen in to the critique session and participate in the 30-minute Q&A.

For Members Sharing Manuscripts with the Mystery Editor:

Each participant signed up to share will read their work aloud and be asked to share their manuscript on-screen so the mystery editor can read along.

You can share a picture book or pages from a longer work. There should be enough time to read an entire picture book manuscript (approx. 600 words) or 3-4 double-spaced pages from a longer work. The SCBWI Ohio North Regional Team will moderate if a piece is longer than what’s recommended for this event in an effort to keep the event on time for everyone.

We won’t reveal the Mystery Editor until the event kicks-off, but we will give you some clues here and in the week before the critique…watch the SCBWI Ohio North Twitter and Instagram for more clues!

And as for what the Mystery Editor loves…

Picture Books (fiction, esp witty, humorous, character-driven or uplifting)

Middle Grade (fiction ranging from contemporary, speculative, fantasy, horror, verse)

Young Adult (high fantasy, rom-com, verse)
